Water, molecular model. Water is one of the most abundant chemicals on Earth, covering almost 75 per cent of its surface. It is also present as vapour in the atmosphere, and forms ice at temperatures below zero degrees Celsius, and steam at temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius. Waters chemical formula is H2O, as it is made from two hydrogen atoms (H, blue) and one oxygen atom (O, red).
