The British Royal Air Force fighter of the type Hawker Typhoon is seen in flying formation in this May 5, 1943 photo. The single seater, lowwing monoplane is powered by a Napier Sabre engine and armed with either four cannons or twelve machine guns. Used both in night and day operations, the Typhoon is said to have been effective in attacking enemy trains, barges and truck convoys, and even against trawlers and minesweepers.
