Saturns rings. Coloured spacecraft image of the rings of the planet Saturn. Saturns C ring (blue) and B ring (orange) are shown. The C ring is the closest one to Saturn. Saturns 6 main rings are 273,000 kilometres wide from one edge to another, but only about 10 metres (m) thick. The rings are made up of hundreds of narrow ringlets that are comprised of orbiting ice and dust particles ranging in size from less than 0.0005 centimetres to 10 m. The B and C rings show rippling density variations caused by gravity interactions with Saturns moons. The B ring is dense enough to block out sunlight. Image taken by the Voyager 2 satellite.
