The new abstracts by Ally Burke have a remarkable sense of visual balance and gentle movement. The background of these images is defined by a calming composition of thin textured triangular shapes of alternating soft green tones combined with light beiges and grays. There is a natural textural quality to the angular vertical forms which act as counterpoints to each other in both tone and texture. On top of the background’s solid strength are wispy elliptical lines which bring a quiet motion to the work. “Without being too literal,” Burke describes, “I wanted to create the feeling of a soft playful breeze blowing across much more solid objects outdoors. I meant to convey tranquility, but in a place that has the visual interest of movement and is not totally still.”
