Nothing is known of their story, other than what this painting shows. One man stands taller in a patterned robe, with an large white wrap around his shoulders. Beside and behind him, his companion also wears non-European costume and poses with his chin on the others shoulder, in a mode not standard for European portraits. (BSLOC_2023_4_36)
