Ahu Akivi (right) is a row of moai representing the seven explorers sent by the legendary first settler and chief Hotu Matua. The moai are megalithic statues carved from volcanic rock from around 1000-1500 AD. Total solar eclipses, visible from a relatively small area, occur less than once a year. This total solar eclipse took place on 11 July 2010. The previous total solar eclipse visible from Easter Island occurred on 30 March in 591 AD, before these moai statues were carved. The next one here will take place on 25 February 2324.
