This is Boudhanath which is one of the largest stupas in Nepal. Stupas are all over Nepal (even in the mountains) and they’re Buddhist monuments meant to represent a seated Buddha once he’s reached enlightenment. The square base is his legs, the round mound his body, and the spire his head. You can also see his eyes that are painted on each side of the stupa representing the all-seeing nature of Buddha. When you walk around a stupa, you’re supposed to walk clockwise around it which represents the Buddhist philosophy that life is an endless cycle of birth, suffering, and enlightenment Read More
