Computer simulation of the surface pressure experienced by the space shuttle during its ascent stage. The colours on the surface of the shuttle represent the varying levels of surface pressure. The airflow model has been set up by NASA engineers at the Ames Research Center using a Cray2 supercomputer. They are using the numerical simulations to analyse flight performance and crew escape procedures. A masked version of T612001; without the air flow contours.
