Small gold foils, Viking, Sweden, late Iron Age. From Helgo, Ekero parish, Uppland. These tiny foils, called 'euldgubbar, were used as sacrificial offerings in association with fertility rites. They are usually found in the remains of banqueting halls. Each shows a couple embracing who have been identified as Freyr and Gerd. From the Statens Historiska Museum, Stockholm.
