This flock of about 6,000 Rambouillet sheep grazing on a plain near Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada, is only one of many flocks comprising the 500,000 sheep this huge farm sends to the markets and wool packing plants annually. The sheep on this ranch alone contribute an average of 12 pounds of wool to Canada's annual stockpile of 8 million pounds of wool. Wool production is one of Canada'a largest industries: although Canada has some 1,500,000 sheep, it nevertheless imports 300 million pounds of raw wool, much of it from the UK, as well as importing $160,000,000 worth of woollen products for manufacture and sale.
