Red admiral butterfly (Vanessa atalanta) artwork. The butterflys wing colouration may assist to camouflage it during hibernation. The adult inhabits woodland, the female laying her eggs on plants in the nettle family (Urticaceae). The red admiral is a migrant, moving north in summer every year from areas further south. However, it can overwinter in warmer regions. It is found in Europe, North America, North Africa and Asia.
