Original caption: Franz Kruckenberg's Rail Zeppelin holds a world's speed record on rails of 143 miles an hour. The silver-gray locomotive traveled 160 miles between Hamburg and Spandau, a suburb of Berlin, in 1 hour and 36 minutes, reaching the highest speed shortly after its departure and making an average speed of about 106 miles an hour. The time was four minutes better than that of the regular Lufthansa plane between the two points. The "Zep on Rails" seats fifty persons and travels four miles on a gallon of gasoline.
