  • The ethereal, twilight ambiance that follows a rainshower is gently conveyed in Paul Cornoyer’s “Plaza After the Rain.” Using the simplicity of a tonal palette and a misty Impressionist style, Cornoyer (1864- 1923) specialized in perfectly rendered scenes of cities after a rain. He also loved painting Paris but was impassioned by New York where, by 1900, his paintings of the city were quite popular.
