  • Even in Salvador Dali’s most outlandishly surrealistic works, the coastline of his Spanish homeland was a recurring element. With an uncharacteristically peaceful mood, Dali (1904 – 1989) portrayed his younger sister, Ana Maria, who modeled for him until his wife replaced her, looking at the Bay of Cadaqués. Until Ana Maria described Dali disparagingly in her autobiography, the two were extremely close. Dali sought revenge by recreating an unflattering and obscene version of this painting.
