The twin towers of New York's World Trade Center rise over the newer World Financial Center, which opened in 1988, in this view from the air Wednesday, June 23, 1999. The buildings of the World Financial Center, with their four copper-topped towers, were built on 14 acres of landfill in Battery Park City and contain eight million square feet of space.
