Monument to Pythagoras of Samos, in the harbour at Pythagorio, Samos, Greece. Pythagoras of Samos (born between 580 and 572 BC, died between 500 and 490 BC, shown here as 580496 BC) was an Ionian Greek mathematician and founder of the religious movement called Pythagoreanism. He is most famous for the mathematical theory concerning the square of the hypoteneuse of a rightangled triangle, shown symbolically in this monument.
