Lava flow. Glowing orange lava causing clouds of steam as it boils the water at the Hawaiian coast. This lava flow originated from the Kilauea volcano, which is one of the worlds most active. Lava reaches volcanoes from the Earths interior through faults in the crust, and is forced through them by the high pressure within the Earth. The black rock of the Hawaiian coastline is made entirely from old lava flows. The continuous emissions from volcanoes such as Kilauea mean that the Hawaiian islands are still increasing in size.
