Interacting galaxies NGC 5257 and NGC 5258. Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image of two interacting spiral galaxies, collectively known as Arp 240. Located about 300 million light years away in the constellation of Virgo, the galaxies are visibly interacting with each other via a bridge of dim stars. Both galaxies harbour supermassive black holes in their centers and are actively forming new stars in their disks. Image obtained on 20th December 2001.
