Indian writing set with painted wooden cover, c1904. The painting depicts Colonel Francis Younghusband on horseback, accompanied by a staff officer and interpreter. Younghusband lead the expedition (1903-1904) which extended British colonial political and economic influence over Tibet, reaching the city of Lhasa in August 1904.
