Hip joint, artwork. This joint is formed by the articulation of the femur (thigh bone, lower left) with the pelvis. The head of the femur fits snugly into the acetabulum, a hemispherical cavity in the pelvis. The bones are held in place by the surrounding muscles and ligaments (some seen, pink).
