Chelsea Black Frame

Hannah Snell (1723?1792) was a British woman who disguised herself as a man and became a soldier. She was born in Worcester in 1723. In 1740, she moved to London, married and had a daughter who died a year later. When her husband deserted her, she, according to her own account, borrowed a male suit and joined the army. She eventually retired to Wapping in East London where she kept a pub called The Female Warrior.
