The historical British Columbias Government House, at Victoria, Canada, was burned to the ground in 1957. Valuable art treasures, historical reliefs and royal momentoes were destroyed, although no one was killed. Previous guests at the house included King George VI and Queen Elizabeth during the 1939 Royal Visit and Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh in 1951.
