Cornice of a building, ancient Mayan city of Uxmal, Yucatan, Mexico. Showing the distinctive snarling mouth and curled nose of the Maya god of rain, Chac. Uxmal is one of the most well known of the Maya cities. Mayan chronicles say that it was founded in around 500 AD although most of the buildings visible today were built between 700 and 1100. The city was abandoned around 1450.
