Although it wasn't his first picture, the public was unaware of the actor's appearance, so the producers were unconcerned about getting his likeness on the posters accurate. The studio commissioned Alex Raymond (the creator of the comic strip Flash Gordon) to create the artwork used on the ad campaign.
