  • Detailed shapes are formed from deep shadows and light in Ansel Adams’ “Birds on a Beach.” Adams (1902 – 1984), who elevated photography to a fine art, primarily took his gorgeous shots of nature to encourage its preservation. While serving the environment as a Sierra Club Director, he also pioneered a photography department at New York’s Museum of Modern Art.
