Arm illustration from "Anatomie du gladiateur combattant," by JeanGalbert Salvage (1771813), 1812. Salvage was a military doctor and anatomist of the Napoleonic era. He based his drawings on dissections of soldiers killed in duels, arranging the cadavers in the poses he desired. This study works out the skeletal and muscular anatomy of the Borghese Gladiator, an ancient Greek statue.
