African lion (Panthera leo) male juvenile (23 years old). The African lion is a big cat and predatory carnivore that inhabits the savannah and scrubland of subSaharan Africa. Lion cubs are weaned between 7 and 10 months, but remain dependent on the prides adults until around 16 months old. As they grow, they engage in stalking and predatory behaviour that helps develop skills they will need for hunting. Photographed in South Africa, in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
