Illustrious Mexican artist Frida Kahlo expresses the overwhelming emotional pain she endured after her divorce from artist Diego Rivera in “Las Dos Fridas.” The broken heart of the traditionally dressed, weaker Frida is exposed, fed by the intact heart of the stronger Frida. Both Fridas’ hearts connect to a picture of Rivera in a locket. The weaker Frida futilely tries to halt the blood flow from Rivera, which threatens her life. Storm clouds mirror Kahlo’s (1907 – 1954) distress, and, profoundly lonely, she holds her own hand and is her only companion.
