In Sir Edwin Henry Landseer’s “Monarch of the Glen,” a magnificent buck regally surveys his territory. An exceptional British animal painter, Landseer (1802 – 1873) often endowed his subjects with human traits. The artist created many detailed stag studies inspired by stags he had seen on his frequent visits to Scotland.
