An erotic painting by Jean-Honoré Fragonard, “The Swing” flirted its way to being his most famous work. The technically proficient painting was so scandalous, it became an instant success. The piece depicts a woman revealing herself to a man who gleefully enjoys the view. It was allegedly commissioned by an aristocrat who pushed his mistress on a swing, unaware that her lover was hidden in nearby rosebushes.
