Product Information
“Self-Portrait with Cropped Hair” was the first self-portrait legendary Mexican artist Frida Kahlo painted after her divorce from Diego Rivera. Expressing the anguish of her loss and renouncing her feminine image, Kahlo (1907 – 1954) has just cut off the long hair Rivera adored, and is wearing a suit that probably belonged to him. The artwork suggests Kahlo yearned for the freedom and independence of a man. In the piece, she is surrounded by a vast empty space evocative of her loneliness and despair, compounded by the song verse above her: “See, if I loved you, it was for your hair, Now you’re bald, I don’t love you anymore.” This high-quality art print is expertly produced to capture the vivid color and exceptional detail of the original.
