Product Information
As poetic as its title, “The Shortening Winter’s Day” by Joseph Farquharson is one of his many remarkable winter scenes featuring a flurry of sheep. Originally from Scotland, Farquharson (1846 – 1935) was often inspired by the woods and land bordering his home. This work’s exceptional realism attests to his patriotism and attention to detail. When it was shown at the Royal Academy, it was praised for “the ingenuity of painting, and for the power to convey the illusion of sunlight on snow, darkened by the shadows and the leafless trees behind which the winter sun is setting." The landscape was called "a tour de force." This fine art print is produced using sustainable and enviromentally friendly practices, according to the international ISO14001 Environmental Management standard.
