U.S. Marine Pfc. Jerry D. Goff of St. Louis, Mo., studies the barrel of his M-14 rifle, split by a Viet Cong bullet that hit the barrel head-on during a firefight near My Son, April 24, 1965. Fragments of bullet and barrel struck Goff's face, but he was not seriously injured. It was hit by a Viet Cong round as he fired at enemy snipers near Danang.
