Mildred Ella 'Babe' Didrikson, one of the greatest female athletes of all time, was a U.S. track and field Olympian, an all-American basketball player, and a champion golfer. This Lusha Nelson photograph of Didrikson, wearing track shorts with a 1930 National Champs patch, appeared in the January 1933 Vanity Fair. Didrikson competed in the 1932 Summer Olympics (80-meter hurdles gold medalist, javelin throw gold medalist, and high jump silver medalist).
