Figures float weightlessly out of dreamlike backgrounds in the works of Marta Gottfried. From Mexico City, she was raised in an artistic household where visits by icons such as Frida Kahlo were common. Strongly influenced by Impressionism, Gottfried began selling her paintings as early as high school. She particularly enjoys painting surreal landscapes, animals and dancers imbued in soft, soulful tones. Well versed in numerous mediums, Gottfried says, “I paint because it hurts not to. Pain is in the word painting.”
