Jean-Gabriel Domergue(1889 – 1962) was a French Art Deco painter who credited himself with being the inventor of the pinup. A student of Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Domergue was a landscape painter before achieving fame painting coquettish nude and semi-nude women. Numerous celebrities posed for him, most famously Brigitte Bardot. He also created travel ads to entice the leisure crowd to the world’s most elegant locations.
