The vivid emotion in the eyes of “Toby,” a shelter dog who found a home through artist Ron Burns, make the surrounding day-glo colors pale in comparison. The Humane Society appointed Burns as their artist-in-residence after he donated a portion of the proceeds from his homeless cat and dog portrait sales to shelters. Representing animals’ irrepressible emotions with equally vivid colors, Burns begins each painting with their eyes which are infused with life and personality.
Best known for his day-glo color-saturated paintings of dogs and cats, Ron Burns is also deftly talented at creating nature landscapes and intriguing abstracts. Painting in the tranquility of Arizona gives Ron a break from his hectic L.A.-based graphic design company. After using his own pets as models, he now paints shelter pets, returning a percentage of proceeds back to the shelters. Burns is now artist-in-residence with The Humane Society of the United States.
