“Tobacco and Chocolate I” by Laurie Maitland, holds a forbidden allure in both its title and dark intensity. Moving from Portland to London as a teenager to study art, photography and set design, Maitland has owned galleries, a furniture design business and now helps manage Naked Art Publishing. Featuring the earth tones that inspire her, this dusky, dramatic work pairs beautifully with “Tobacco and Chocolate II and III.”
The drama of Laurie Maitland’s theatrical influences is evident in her Abstract Expressionist art. Born into an artistic family and growing up in the English countryside, she absorbed the best of both rural and urban settings after moving to London as a teenager. She studied photography, life drawing and specialized in set design as part of an English and Drama degree. After a brief teaching career she began exhibiting her work and now paints full-time, selling her works in galleries worldwide.
