With elaborate curlicues on glistening gold leaf, “Tree of Life” presents a universal motif in a unique context. Artist Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was a forerunner of Modernism and the Art Deco movements, helping to pioneer the Viennese Secession and Art Nouveau movements. Modern art and jewelry are still profoundly influenced by his innovative style.
