Rembrandt’s (1606 – 1669) only seascape, it was painted with a rich palette and bold brushstrokes that characterized the religious and historical paintings that dominated the last 20 years of his life. Technically impeccable, his work was defined by an Rembrandt, who was called the Shakespeare of painting, sensitively explored human nature and convincingly depicted dramatic moments.
