After searching thousands of large artworks both online and in stores for the perfect piece to serve as the focal point of my daughter's and soon-to-be son-in-law's new house (living room), I found this tapestry. Mostly, I had been looking at paintings (primarily coastal landscapes and Japanese woodblock prints) while trying to avoid anything cliche or overly familiar (Monet, etc.) I admit, I was skeptical of tapestries in general. Some of those I had seen in person were either cheap looking, shabby, or just plain ugly. Something about this particular piece appeared richer than others, and it seemed neither too girly for my son-in-law nor too dark for my daughter. Since they already had a subtle koi/lily-pond/lotus theme in the house, we didn't want anything too obvious, either. This artist, Nicole Etienne, had deftly portrayed the fluidity of water and a beautiful rendering of koi, but in an understated, almost abstract format. Of the final few pieces I had picked online, we all liked this one best. I was still a bit leery of buying a tapestry, but when it arrived and I saw it hung in the room, I knew this had been the perfect choice. It is gorgeous, with rich, deep colors, and a saturated image that is clear without any of the tackiness or loose weave that paintings translated to cloth sometimes have. It hangs heavily and straight, and I loved that it came with a hanger kit and rod! It is unique and absolutely lovely.
