Inspired by the seaside town in Massachusetts where she lives, Karen J. Jones began using pastels for their ability to capture a variety of subtle moods. The artist started painting as a teenager but did not cultivate her distinct, dreamy style of landscape painting until she studied at the Museum School at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts. There she experimented with different styles and forms of expressions in order to broaden her repertoire and refine her technique.
