The outstretched hand of God reaching out to Adam in “The Creation of Adam” by Renaissance master Michelangelo (1475 – 1564) is expressively depicted with an air of suspenseful anticipation. Portraying the moment preceding their connection, the legendary gesture is part of one of nine scenes from Genesis which Michelangelo painted on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. His eternal masterpieces were rendered in a wide range of media, and he was the first artist to have two biographies written about him in his lifetime.
