Flowers blossom with enchanting fairies in Cicely Mary Barker’s beloved artworks. Barker (1895 – 1973), who was fascinated by the pre-Raphaelites, painted watercolor fairies based on real children. A hallmark of her work, the clothing and personality of each fairy represented specific flowers. Painting with a botanist’s accuracy, she would often request a live specimen from London’s Kew Gardens if she could not find a particular flower.
