Quaint cafes glazed in sunlight create a relaxed atmosphere in “Summer in Provence" by George W. Bates. Born in England and living in Canada, Bates utilizes realist and traditional styles in his depictions of the mood and lighting of street scenes, coastlines and landscapes. He is influenced by John Singer Sargent and Alfred Sisley, as well as prominent marine painters. Bates often paints images of his beloved France and Britain. Through his artwork, he has also gotten to know the Pacific Northwest, California and the American Southwest.
