Gasteropelecus maculatus (Steindachner, 1879). These freshwater hatchetfish have deep convex bodies with well-developed muscles that control their elongated pectoral fins. They can leap out of the water and glide for short distances. Size of specimen: 8 centimeters (3.2 inches)
