Spawning sockeye salmon (Onocorhynchus nerka). Adult male spawner swimming upstream to spawn. Sockeye salmon are anadromous, meaning they migrate from the ocean to spawn in the river of their birth. Spawners assume a vibrant red colour with a green head. After spawning, the adults die. Photographed in the Adams River, Canada.
