The Welsh explorer and journalist, Sir Henry Moreton Stanley (1841-1904), in Zanzibar on the African coast, from where he set out on explorations of the African continent. In 1871, Stanley was commissioned by the New York Herald to establish the whereabouts of Dr. Livingstone, to whom he uttered the immortal words, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume ?". Africa, 1887.
