Original caption: A new town development in the Middle East. His HIghness Shaikh Isa bin Sulman Al-Khalifa, ruler of Bahrain and its dependencies, officially inaugurated the opening of Isa Town, Bahrain, on November 13th, 1968, some five years after he had laid the foundation stone. Situated 4 1/2 miles from Manama, the capital, this modern town covers an area of 2 1/2 sq miles and will accommodate 15,000 people. To date 1,385 houses have been built and 850 families have taken up residence. The houses cover all income groups and a complete range of services have been incorporated in the design, including Municipal Offices, Police and Fire Stations, Mosques, schools and clinics, shopping centre and Sports Stadium, where the opening ceremony took place and on the following day, 14th Nov, the England amateur soccer team played the Bahrain national team.
