Jules Chéret created the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow of color with his “Reproduction of a Poster Advertising the ‘Taverne Olympia,’ Paris, 1899.” Chéret (1836 – 1932) produced exceptionally appealing posters, and revolutionized printing and advertising when he invented color lithography. By studying the artwork of Rubens and other prominent artists, Chéret was motivated to use color in an incomparable, fantastic manner. Chéret’s work was an inferno of color, imagination and fun that transformed lithography into art, and made him the world-renowned “Master of the Poster.”
